We propose a feasible long-term change in the urban fabric of Heraklion aimed at onset of the problem of fragmented urban space and therefore create a coherent urban space.

Creating coherent urban space presupposes changes in “education” of the city residents and the creation of a collective consciousness that lays the groundwork for the implementation of a new residential model. A substantial change of urban culture, to strengthen the lost social coexistence presupposes the change from the “inside” of the life of city resident, requires placing the one to share the daily life with their neighbors.

  • The building interaction and urban space is on two levels:

    First Level – DIFFUSION OF BUILDING VOLUME: The fragmentary enclosed spaces diffused among the existing gaps in order to consolidate the first.
    – TOOLS: Hosting daily activities that can be done collectively.
    – RESULT: Αccumulation of public spaces and creating a new and unified are, within the building of individual apartment.

    Second Level – DIFFUSION OF THE EXISTING GAPS: Consolidation of existing empty spaces, ie the gaps between buildings, vacant lots, pilotis of the ground floors of buildings and roads of the “cross”.
    – TOOLS: Marking the consolidated urban space through screed floor and green.
    – RESULT: The collective activity of all city residents.
